ORIGIN EARTH SMOKED CAMEMBERT
The Cheese Cartel whanau have a soft spot for a smokey cheese. Origin Earth is a Hawkes Bay producer making delicious cheeses from single farm origin milk within an hour of the cheesery. This gently Manuka smoked Camembert has a creamy texture and a smoky mushroom flavour. Make sure you eat this one at room temperature to experience the full flavour and texture.
KAIKOURA CHEESE LAUGESEN
The Laugesen is a semi-hard Jersey cow cheese from one of our favourite producers, Kaikoura Cheeses (makers of the outstanding Tenara). The name of the cheese is actually the family name of the people that provide Kaikoura with their beautiful Jersey cows milk. This cheese has an orange colour and a crusty rind and it won the Gold in the Outstanding NZ Produces Awards 2020. We love the savoury, umami flavours that (we think) come from the addition of spent grain. It's incredibly moreish, and it's unusual appearance makes it a winner on a cheese board. Another creative and delicious cheese from Kaikoura!
There are more sheep than people in New Zealand and that means great sheep’s milk cheese! The folks at Thorvald Cheese make some of the best. This Curado won a bronze medal at the 2019 Champions of Cheese awards. It’s a slightly sweet, nutty, Manchego style cheese that has great well developed flavour – not strong, just a little piquant. Try with a medium bodied Spanish Rioja or mild brown ale.
LITTLE RIVER ESTATE CUMULUS
Chaource is a soft, cow’s milk cheese originally from the village of Chaource, France. This is the New Zealand version from little River Estate, Nelson. Please remove it from it’s wrapping, and store in an air tight container. We recommend you eat this cheese first.
The Cumulus has a creamy, crumbly texture and a velvety white rind. The cheese has a buttery taste and it goes really well with champagne. We hope you enjoy it - it was made especially for us!
